Trends on Display: Wood-Mode Tiffany + Whitney Door Styles Showroom Kitchen
February 22, 2017Cabinets & Designs Showroom Update: Breezy Beach Bathroom
March 8, 2017Progress continues here at the new Cabinets & Designs showroom, including some exciting developments in our contemporary kitchen display. Our electrician recently stopped by to troubleshoot some lighting challenges specific to contemporary design. For example, without a molding to provide cover, it can be difficult to place undercabinet lighting discreetly.
Speaking of solutions, one small—but quite contemporary—feature of this particular kitchen is a USB-ready charging station/wall outlet combination. Everything in this kitchen was chosen with an eye toward practical solutions (and styles) for modern living.
Sleek + Sophisticated
What does ‘contemporary’ really mean when it comes to kitchen design? ‘Modern’ is a little too generic. A few features common to contemporary kitchens include:
- Simple hardware—or none at all. Minimalism is the key word here.
- Natural colors, often neutrals; think taupe, creams/whites, and natural stone colors.
- Modern appliances—stainless steel is the go-to finish, though matte finishes are making an appearance in high-end appliances.
Kitchen Specs
A variety of finishes are on display, including Latte, Bright White High Gloss, an Aluminum finish, and a Rift Cut in Steel Gray finish. The farmhouse sink in stainless is right on-trend, and will be paired with stainless faucet as well; a Bosch dishwasher and drop-down door oven from the Benchmark Series will round out the appliances.
Ingenious Organization
The lazy Susan isn’t exactly a cutting-edge concept, but no square inch of space goes unused with the ingenious design on display in our contemporary kitchen. The rectangular shelving unit unfolds smoothly around corners so that even those back corners are reachable and useable.
We also love the ServePro soft-open drawer unit where the garbage/recycling combination lives. Not-quite-touchless, you can open the unit with a bump of your hip if your hands are full.
