Cabinets & Designs in the News: May 2014
May 22, 2014How to Pick a Remodeler
June 4, 2014Memorial Day Weekend is behind us, but the fun is just around the corner! Cabinets and Designs President Maria Frank will join the GHBA Remodelers Council in Galveston this weekend, May 30-31, for Sandcastle Weekend 2014. The AIA Sandcastle weekend has been bringing architects, designers, and engineers to Galveston for over twenty years, and challenging their skills in one of the world’s largest sandcastle competitions. The Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has been hosting this fantastic event since 1986, and we look forward to it every year.
This year’s theme is “Lego World Cup,” and we can’t wait to see the different combinations of Legos and soccer represented in each design. And of course, no competition would be complete without a pre-party! On Friday, May 30, we’ll start with an RMC pre-party at Landry’s on the Seawall. We predict an evening of great food, and brilliant strategy, before we go on win the whole thing on Saturday!
The fun begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, when we start bringing our sandcastles to life! It will be a day full of sun, sand, and creativity; Sandcastle Weekend is Galveston’s largest event of the year, so we’re going to have quite an audience. Will you be there? If you need a little more incentive, you should know that this year AIA Sandcastle Weekend is helping the City of Galveston break a world record. The residents of Galveston are attempting to set a new world record for the most aluminum cans collected in an eight hour period on May 31, 2014; the attempt is being coordinated with AIA Sandcastle, and anyone heading to Galveston that weekend is asked to help.
Teams, sponsors, and spectators are all being asked to assist by simply bringing their cans during the competition. Cans—and all other recyclable materials and trash—will be collected at Eco-Stations posted throughout the thoroughfare on the beach. Every team and sponsor will provide three boxes for their tent—one for cans, one for all other recyclables, and a third for trash—to collect donations until 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Check our Facebook page in early June for photos from our Sandcastle Weekend adventure, and if you’ll be joining us, don’t forget your recyclables!
