April 3, 2019With yet another Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in the rearview mirror, the Cabinets & Designs team is reflecting on all of the major themes and trends to emerge from KBIS 2019. Enduring trends from 2018 include matte black finishes and fully integrated “smart” appliances, while wood tones in darker hues and touch-to-open appliance doors count among the most popular emerging kitchen trends for 2019.
Best of KBIS
Each year we look forward to the “Best of KBIS” awards, which honor the most innovative products of the year. Here is a curated selection of our favorite “Best of KBIS 2019” winners:
- Flo by Moen: Flo by Moen is smart home technology to detect and stop leaks. You can monitor your toilet, shower, faucets, and the pipes in the foundation and behind walls right from your smartphone or tablet.
- HydroTap by Zip Water: HydroTap provides boiled, chilled, or sparkling water instantly, and comes in six designs and twelve colors.
- TOTO Floating Tub with Zero Dimension: This tub simulates zero gravity “that eliminates the mechanical energy/load on their joints.”
In the Bathroom
Go high tech in the bathroom with the latest by Häfele. Their multi-dimensional bathroom mirror features integrated touch-keys to give you control over lighting (warm vs. cool), makeup lighting, aesthetically pleasing backlighting, and other options. An anti-fogging function is also at the touch of the finger, as is an integrated Bluetooth-enabled sound system.

- Showcase for Living in Place – Living in Place Institute: An important presentation to bring attention and information about the importance of making all homes accessible, comfortable, and safe.
- Peruse the 2018 KBDA Winners gallery, selected based criteria including aesthetic appeal, functionality of space, attention to detail, handling of unusual situations, originality, selection of colors and finishes, and overall impression.
- Cabinet drawer organization by Häfele is optional organization for kitchen, bath, and other spaces in five finishes: birch, cherry, mahogany, walnut, and white oak.
