If you are resolved to renovate your kitchen in 2019, the Cabinets & Designs team can help. A comprehensive kitchen remodel can take up to 20 weeks—five months!—which means starting now if you want to cook your next Thanksgiving turkey in a brand-new kitchen.
In addition to demolition and building, unforeseen problems (think late deliveries, permit problems, backorders) can delay the process. We’ve reviewed our “remodeling timeline” on the blog before, but now is the perfect time to refresh your memory.
Weeks 1-4: The first month of your kitchen renovation is usually spent in the planning phases: Assessing your kitchen, making a list of “must haves” vs. “needs,” setting a budget and applying for a loan if required. This is also when you will sit down with your kitchen designer to begin choosing materials and finishes, as well as choosing a general contractor and discussing permit requirements.
Weeks 5-10: Your cabinets, countertops, and appliances are ordered, and now it’s time to pack up the kitchen. Label boxes, donate unnecessary items and create a temporary kitchen somewhere in your home.
Weeks 11-19: It’s demolition time! The length of the demolition phase can vary, but a professional crew can demolish a room in about a week. Then it’s time for installation; this phase can also vary depending on factors related to plumbing, electrical, drywall, and more. A typical remodel takes about eight weeks from the time construction begins.
