Contemporary Cabinet Offerings from Brookhaven
January 10, 2012The Importance of Warranties
January 24, 2012Are you itching to give your kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom a new look? If you don’t have the time or the budget to start a major remodeling project right now, you can still achieve a big impact by making small changes. Here are a few of our favorite tips for freshening up any room of your house with small, relatively inexpensive changes.
In the Kitchen
We all know that big kitchen remodels can be expensive, so if you need to put off that total overhaul for just a little while longer but still need a change try some of these smaller, more affordable updates:
- – Repainting or re-staining cabinetry and woodwork
- – Changing out hardware on cabinets and drawers (knobs, pulls, hinges)
- – Replace your old faucet with a newer, more modern one
- – Add moldings and trims
- – Replace a single item that will make a big cosmetic impact, like granite countertops or new floors
In the Bathroom
Create a spa-like atmosphere in your bathroom with a few simple changes until you’re ready to add the big walk-in shower or jet tub.
Repainting, re-staining, and switching out hardware is as great for the bathroom as the kitchen. In the shower, splurge on a special spa-style showerhead.
- – Add wainscoting or wallpaper to add visual interest on the walls. Too permanent? Try new artwork. Framing inexpensive prints from books and magazines won’t break the bank.
- – Switch out your shower curtain, bathmats, and towels and change your color scheme completely.
In the Bedroom
If your bedroom is large enough, create a reading nook by moving a chair and small table from somewhere else in the house into a corner—just add a reading lamp, a footstool, and a cozy throw to create a personal space to spend some “me” time. Or just change all the furniture around to give the room a new perspective.
- – Start with a good de-cluttering: Re-shelve the stack of books on your nightstand, hang up clothes, put away shoes and belts, stash jewelry back in the jewelry box.
- – Beds, especially king-sized beds, are often the focal point of the bedroom. Treat yourself to new linens and a comforter for an instant pick-me-up in the bedroom. Or invest in a reversible duvet cover that you can switch around when you get bored.
- – If you love your comforter but need a little tweak, add colorful throw pillows that compliment your existing décor.
- – Add plants, framed photos, scented candles—anything that makes the room feel more personal and relaxing to you.
