May 9, 2015On Saturday, April 25th, the GHBA Remodelers Council held the annual Charity Project Work Day, benefitting the Family Time Crisis & Counseling Center. We shared information about the project last month on the blog, and today we will share before and after photos of the project, as well as hear from Sherry Pruitt, RMC Chair for the Charity Project Work Day, and owner of Whodid It Designs.
After working in commercial construction for thirteen years, Sherry Pruitt turned her eye toward design and today she runs Whodid It Designs, where she guides clients through the remodeling process from design through renovation. “I have a passion for helping people, and for helping them transform their home.” This passion for helping people made Pruitt a natural fit for RMC Chair for Charity Project Work Day, and Pruitt knew right away that the Family Time Crisis & Counseling Center needed a great deal of help.
“This fantastic group has thirty years of experience helping victims of domestic violence, families hurt by domestic violence,” explained Pruitt. “The facility houses thirty residents at a time, so showers and kitchens are heavily utilized, and when we visited it was obvious [these renovations] were urgently needed to keep the facility going.”
When volunteers showed up on Saturday, April 25th they had their work cut out for them. Gutting the bathroom made room for new cabinets, Silestone countertops, sinks, toilets, floor tile, and faucets; handicapped facilities were brought up to ADA code, and a new choreographed all-in-one product from Kohler was installed.
“All of the materials were donated by generous, generous people so we could tackle this project with the care it deserved,” said Pruitt. “GHBA members are just really incredible, and I feel fortunate to be a part of this amazing experience.”
The renovations didn’t end in the bathroom—kitchen remodeling included gutting sixteen cabinet units and replacing them with Waypoint cabinetry, as well as new granite countertops, backsplash replacement, a new refrigerator, plus new sinks, dishwashers, and faucets. Again, all materials were donated to benefit the families who rely on Family Time’s services.
“The before-and-after photos, they really are just unbelievable,” said Sherry. “Family Time clients now have a safe, clean environment where they can really start to believe that they matter, and that people care for them. Family Time is a fantastic group—we feel incredibly fortunate, and I personally feel incredibly fortunate—it was a great success, and I just can’t say enough about GHBA members. I can’t think of a better group to be associated with!”
