Closet Conversion – Makeover of Your Dreams

May 8, 2014We really have summer on the brain—we’ve devoted almost the entire month of April to the topic, and we have one more for you before we move on to May. For those of us with school-age kids, juggling hectic summer schedules can be a challenge. We started our Summer Series with a look at finding activities for kids on Pinterest, and then we shared some of our favorite ideas to help you convert your kitchen with kid-friendly updates. We love the idea of getting the kids into the kitchen, so why not sign them up for one of the amazing cooking classes around Houston? Finally, we offered some thoughts on how a closet conversion could, quite possibly, be the perfect summer renovation project—especially if you’ve got an un- or under-used closet languishing in one of the kids’ rooms.
This all got us thinking about some of the more practical concerns parents have during the summer months, when school is out and work schedules are juggled to accommodate family vacations. The end of the school year is even closer than on the horizon, so why not get all of your ducks in a row so you can kick back and enjoy summer?
Doctor’s Appointments
You know the kids will need a check-up before school starts—or even earlier, if they play a sport that requires a physical—so go ahead and schedule it now. It’s one fewer thing you’ll be scrambling to get done the week before the fall semester, and you’ll know far in advance if you need to reschedule.
Pet Boarding
Are you traveling with the whole family this summer—well, almost the whole family? If you are going on an extended trip that will require boarding the family’s pet(s), make reservations as early as possible; many Houstonians travel during the summer months, making it a busy time for pet boarding services. Also, making arrangements in advance gives you time to visit the facility and ask the staff questions about their procedures.
Day Care
Giving yourself time to meet and interview potential caregivers for your children now means you can take your time making a final decision. It also gives plenty of time for reference checks, as well as a meeting or two with the kids to make sure it’s a good fit.
Camp Talk
If you have enrolled your child in a summer camp, or summer c
lasses, make sure you help manage their expectations—especially if it’s a new situation. Camp—sleep away, or day camp—and summer classes are a fun way to keep them socializing and learning all summer long; answering any questions your child may have will address their fears and make the experience a positive one.
We are wishing all of our clients a safe, happy summer full of family, friends, and fun!
