January 21, 2014Bloggers and industry professionals have been predicting the hottest trends in home remodeling and design for 2014 for several months now, and we already love what what we see; it makes us even more excited for KBIS in February! So far, 2014 is shaping up to be an exciting year in home remodeling and design; here are some of our favorite trends of the moment.
Eco-friendly Focus
When it comes to remodeling, homeowners are increasingly interested in making “earth-friendly” choices. In kitchens and bathrooms, water conservation is achieved through low-flow toilets, showerheads, and faucets.
Eco-friendly cabinetry is another trend to watch. In addition to asking about whether the materials are earth friendly, ask about the manufacturer’s ecological practices. Wood-Mode Cabinetry shares their commitment to Environmental Stewardship with consumers on their website, including details on the company’s environmental policies and practices.
Luxury Bathrooms
Speaking of the bathroom, in 2014 homeowners will be renovating their bathrooms with spa-like amenities, creating a true space for retreat within the home. In the shower, a “curbless” design is gaining popularity, as well as other plush features like bench seating, showerheads fitted with wireless speakers, and heated floors and towel racks; multi-head showers can also be employed for a spa experience. Bathtubs are also getting an upgrade—stand-alone tubs not only feel luxurious, they also take up less space than the traditional, tiled-in version.
High Tech Touches
Everyone is talking about the U-socket, a new wall plug with two built-in USB ports that allow you to power iPhones, cameras, Kindles, iPads, and other power devices. The U-socket has a “smart sensor” that automatically shuts off when your device is fully charged; an eco-friendly touch for the tech crowd.
Other high tech upgrades we are seeing are in the kitchen, where high-end appliances continue to innovate to meet the demands of an increasingly sophisticated home cook. More homeowners are opting to outfit their kitchens with media, with high definition televisions and wireless sound.
Designer Lighting
In 2014, designer lighting will be illuminating every corner of the house. Don’t just reserve impact lighting features for high-traffic areas like your dining and living rooms; consider a new chandelier to punch up the bathroom, or sleek track lighting in your home office.
Multi-generational Living
Although it isn’t a new trend, multi-generational living has stuck around and continues to grow in popularity. Whether you’re moving in with your kids or they’re moving in with you, home remodelers seek solutions to harmonize the everyday living for multi-generational families.
