October 22, 2013There are a lot of reasons why we recommend working with a professional designer; their expertise is invaluable when it comes to designing what is arguably the most important room in your home. One of the best reasons to work with a designer, however, is their ability to help you determine and refine your style.
A Designer’s Eye
Let your designer’s eye be the lens of the camera through which you view your remodel. They can focus on the details when needed, or zoom out to show you the big picture when perspective is required. During the early stages of a remodeling project, it’s easy to get distracted by the sheer number of choices and decisions: colors, textures, countertops, appliances, flooring, lighting, windows! And that’s just for starters. Your designer will keep you on track, focusing on options that fall within your budget and suit your aesthetic.
Make it Personal
Your designer needs to understand your style, but they also need to know how you live—after all, this is a room you are going to live and work in. Talk about your family’s routines and lifestyle, which will dictate many choices, including flooring and fabrics.
Take a look around your own house, and take note of any repeated patterns or colors; if you have a few favorite “signature” pieces, share those with your designer. They are clues that will help your designer not only achieve the look you want, but to make it feel organic to you—new, but still home.
Get Visual
Perhaps it goes without saying, but it is always a good idea to show your designer photos of rooms whose aesthetic you find appealing. You can talk to the designer about what appeals to you, which will help give them an idea in what direction to take your current décor.
