October 22, 2014One of our very favorite events in Houston is almost here! The AIA Home Tour comes around every fall, and we eagerly anticipate its arrival each year. Showcasing the finest residential architecture in the Houston area, the AIA Home Tour features homes designed by licensed architects. Every year we feel a renewed sense of gratitude toward the homeowners, who generously open their doors to the public so that we, too, may enjoy their homes. This year’s AIA Home Tour will be held on Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26, and we hope to see you there.
There are seven homes on this year’s AIA Home Tour—the AIA has posted a map of locations, including accompanying photographs. You can visit the homes between noon and 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26; tickets are $25 per person, and are good for both days of the tour. Cyclists can purchase tickets at a discounted price–just $20 per person. Single-home tickets will also be available on-site at each house the weekend of the tour; single-home tickets will not be available for pre-sale. Tickets can be purchased at any of the participating houses during home tour hours, and are good for both days of the tour. If you wish to purchase pre-sale tickets you can order them online through AIA Houston, or you may pick them up in person at the AIA Houston offices, which are located at 315 Capital Street, Suite 120.
More than 3000 people attend the AIA Home Tour each year, and proceeds from the annual non-profit fundraiser help to support various AIA initiatives throughout the year. The tour also offers volunteer opportunities for members of the public. If you volunteer for three hours at a docent you earn a free Home Tour Ticket, plus an invitation to the exclusive Appreciation Party.
If you can’t make the home tour, don’t worry—AIA Houston hosts many events which are open to the public throughout the year. Check their events calendar for home and walking tour schedules, lecture series, and more.
