One of our favorite things about the holidays is watching our favorite Christmas and New Year’s Eve-themed movies. We will get back to blogging about gorgeous custom cabinetry and high-end appliances soon enough, but we just couldn’t resist taking a quick break to share some of our favorites with you!
A Christmas Story on TBS
The tradition continues! Once again TBS will air the holiday classic film A Christmas Story back-to-back for twenty-four hours! Starting at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and ending at 8 p.m. on Christmas Day, you can spend a full day with Ralphie following his pursuit of his dream gift—a Red Ryder B.B. gun. (TBS sister station TNT will also be showing the film.)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas at Alamo Drafthouse
Showing through December 24, the live action version of the Grinch has Jim Carrey in the title role; the film was released in 2000, and was directed by Ron Howard. This is a great opportunity to see this modern classic again on the big screen at Alamo Drafthouse.
The Nutcracker at the Houston Ballet
This year is the final performance of Ben Stevenson’s production of The Nutcracker—in 2016, a new version by artistic director Stanton Welch will be performed with all-new sets and costumes. If you have seen and enjoyed the Stevenson production—a Houston tradition since 1987—you still have time to see it one last time—tickets are still available.
A Christmas Carol at Alley Theatre
This Charles Dickens classic is a Houston favorite, and suitable for the whole family (the theater recommends ages 6 and older). The show plays through December 28, and includes Christmas Eve and Christmas Day shows. This could be the start of a fun new family tradition.
