Storm Protection Resources for Renters and Homeowners
July 29, 2015On Trend: Spice Kitchens
August 12, 2015This month on the Cabinets & Designs blog we’ll be exploring some of our favorite home remodeling and building trends that have emerged in 2015. We love watching the way homeowner tastes and demands drive the market; early trends give way to changing tastes which in turn affect the next year’s trends—there is always something new around the corner.
Today we are focusing on increased homeowner interest in mudrooms. This transitional space between indoors and outdoors can serve many purposes, and address many challenges: storage and organization, cleanliness, and even pet grooming!
Storage & Organization
A mudroom provides an area where entry and exit is more organized. Adding seating gives you a place to pull shoes and galoshes on or off, while hooks and cabinetry can provide additional storage for outerwear, outdoor toys and games, as well as car keys, umbrellas, and dog leashes.
Keep in mind that this area will see a lot of wear and tear, particularly when you factor in kids and pets, so choose high-quality materials that are built to withstand daily use.
Cleanliness & Tidiness
A mudroom gives everyone a place to take off their shoes to keep interior floors clean. (Don’t forget, the mudroom floor will see a lot of traffic, so chose those materials accordingly as well.) You can even provide a basket of slippers for guests as a polite reminder to please remove their shoes before entering.
Maybe your entryway closet is bursting at the seams—maybe you don’t even have an entryway closet! A mudroom will give shoes and boots, outerwear, jackets, and outdoor toys a place to live, so you have more space to live.
Pet Parlor
The days of wrestling with your dog in the bathtub, or trying to catch him with one hand with the garden hose in the other could be over. Wood-Mode’s new Pet Parlor is an amazing way to get double-duty out of a mudroom or entryway makeover.
