On Trend: Spice Kitchens
August 12, 2015Wood-Mode ‘Pick-2’ Savings Event Returns for Fall
August 26, 2015As renovation trends have emerged throughout 2015, some really interesting things have emerged. We have seen the rise in popularity of small transitional spaces—such as mud rooms and spice kitchens (or prep kitchens)—that offer great flexibility in storage, organization, and lifestyle.
Today we’re going to look at another growing trend in 2015—home lighting. We are lighting our homes in smarter, more energy-efficient ways than ever before. We are also illuminating some previously dark corners that have been begging to have a little light thrown their way. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite trends in lighting this year.
LED Lighting
Hugely efficient, with the potential to save the United States billions in energy costs in coming decades, LED lighting is more in demand than ever. Home building professionals are fielding an increasing number of requests for energy efficient LED lighting in both new construction and renovation projects.
Lighting Cabinets & Drawers
Adding lighting to cabinets and drawers is a simple and elegant solution to a problem that only seems small. Imagine, no more rooting around in the dark corner of your kitchen drawers for gadgets, or reaching back into a dark cabinet for a pan lid you just know is there. You don’t have to limit yourself to the kitchen, either; consider adding cabinet lighting in the bathroom, your home office, a home bar, or the entertainment/recreation room—anywhere you need greater organization and visibility. Adding drawer and cabinet lighting is also an excellent way to transition to a universal, aging-in-place design that can help you stay in your home longer.
Warm Metal Finishes
When it comes to finishes, brass and copper are having their moment thanks to the soft, warm glow they add to a space. This trend extends to all metal finishes—fixtures, drawer pulls, cabinet knobs—that you can add in any room of the house. The perfect balance of modern and rustic, copper and brass lighting fixtures are very on-trend for 2015.
