Pinterest for Kids
April 2, 2014Cooking with Kids: Classes in Houston
April 16, 2014We are dedicating the month of April to kid-friendly topics that we hope will help you get prepared for the upcoming summer vacation. It can be hard to keep the kids occupied all summer long, especially on those days when it’s just a little too hot to stay outside! You can find a lot of summer fun right in your own kitchen, whipping up tasty treats with the kids. Kitchen time is quality time, and a great way to make memories; cooking is also a sneaky way of teaching lessons—math, history, culture, and language made exciting!
Get Inspired
Start by doing some research on fun kitchen projects, and let the kids help choose the ones they like the best. Here are a few cool ideas:
- Make your own cookbook: Each time you cook something together, add the recipe to a blank recipe book. This is a terrific way to pass on family recipes to the kids, plus the cookbook is a little scrapbook. You can add stickers and pictures, too.
- Plant a windowsill garden: Teach the kids how to grow fresh herbs, or a small variety of tomato.
- Create a kid-friendly kitchen kit: Go shopping for kid-safe kitchen gadgets, and make each child their own kit with a cutting board, a safety knife, an apron, and measuring spoons and cups.
