Houston for the Holidays 2015

It’s official—we have the holiday spirit! The Galleria is twinkling with lights, and there has been a perceptible increase in the hustle and bustle along Westheimer this week—Christmas is almost here, are you ready?

It’s a busy time of year for all of us, but don’t forget to check out some of the amazing holiday celebrations and events going on around Houston over the next few weeks. We’re certainly looking forward to time with friends and family, and we are wishing you and your family a warm and happy holiday season.

Dining Out

If you’re looking to celebrate an elegant dinner on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or New Year’s Eve, Houston has many wonderful options. Houston institutions like Hugo’s on Westheimer, Brennan’s Steakhouse, Rainbow Lodge, the Spindletop, and the Four Seasons are serving holiday meals and/or offering prepared meals-to-go.

Holiday Lights

Each year we check in with Visit Houston’s annual list of recommended holiday light displays. We never miss a drive through River Oaks at Christmas, and the Festival of Lights at Moody Gardens in Galveston is a don’t-miss!

Kemah Boardwalk

A trip to Kemah is fun for the whole family, and a great way to entertain out-of-town guests. ‘Jingle on the Boardwalk’ continues through next week, and there will also be a New Year’s Eve family celebration—complete with fireworks!—on January 31^st.

Discovery Green

As always, Discovery Green has a host of wonderful activities for the holiday season. Christmas movies, Skating with Santa, plus a beautiful light installation (‘Field of Light’ by Bruce Munro) that remains on display through February. Another great way to entertain the kids, or your holiday houseguests!

Theater

Houston has a beautiful and vibrant arts scene, and we would be remiss if we didn’t share some of the season’s best shows with you! Whether you want a Christmas classic (think Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol) or something more contemporary (The Santaland Diaries), Houston’s theaters have a wonderful variety of shows for the whole family.
