Green Kitchen Trends for 2018
November 22, 2017How to Know When It’s Time to Replace Kitchen Cabinets
December 6, 2017Whether you’re spending a quiet holiday with immediate family or hosting a crowd, make this holiday season a breeze with some of our favorite tips for enjoying the holidays in Houston.
Family Fun
A few of our favorite family-friendly holiday events in Houston include:
- “Shop local” for the folks on your Christmas list at Flea by Night at Discovery Green in December. Treasure hunt to find one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your list (and maybe yourself) starting at 6 p.m. on December 2, 9, and 16.
- Head to Galveston Island for Moody Gardens Festival of Lights, “the largest holiday destination in the Southwest” offers food, music, shopping, and entertainment for the whole family!
- Just because our winters are warm, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy ice skating in Houston! Head over to the Galleria ice rink, or to Discovery Green for fun on the ice. Check schedules for holiday pricing, events with Santa, and more.
Dining Out: Christmas Eve & Christmas Day
One of our favorite things about Houston is there is always something delicious to eat—even during the holidays! Some of our favorites to recommend include:
- The Christmas Eve buffet at Hugo’s on Westheimer is a Houston classic, and a live band makes it all the more festive. Reservations required, $45pp/$15 per child (+ tax, tip, and beverages).
- Sit down for a three-course dinner on Christmas Eve at Backstreet Café for $52pp (+ tax, tip, and beverages). Complimentary eggnog is included, reservations are required.
- Don’t miss the full slate of holiday dining options at La Table: Brunch with Santa (every Saturday from December 2 until Christmas Eve), Hanukkah dinner (December 12) and menu specials, plus Christmas Eve and New Year menus.
Giving Back
There are a lot of opportunities to volunteer or donate your time this holiday season, including:
- Volunteer for Meals on Wheels through Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston
- Donate or volunteer with the Houston Food Bank
- Check out Volunteer Houston’s “The Holiday Project” which recruits volunteers to visit nursing homes, hospitals and other residential institutions during the holidays, and year-round.
