In the Kitchen 2016: Backsplash Trends
March 9, 2016On Trend 2016: High End Appliances
March 23, 2016A recent trip to Morrison Showroom reminded us how infinite the options are when it comes to kitchen and bath hardware. “This is where our designers would refer homeowners making decisions about a renovation,” said Cabinets & Designs President Maria Frank, as we entered the front doors. “They can see just about everything here, from hardware to full kitchens, sinks, tubs, and appliances.”
After a brief tour through the kitchen showrooms, we moved on to the hardware displays, where we fell in love—over and over and over again. One minute we were oohing over clean, streamlined drawer handles in brushed chrome, and the next we were ahhing over ornate, Swarovski crystal-encrusted drawer pulls.
“It’s impossible to choose! With this many options, a homeowner has to work with a designer who will help narrow down the field,” said Maria as we moved from room to room. While she considered options for the new Cabinets & Designs showroom on Wirt Road at The Shoppes at Memorial Villages, Maria pointed out some of her own personal favorites from the displays.
“I really liked that warm, brushed copper, but now I’m moving more toward a brushed nickel—it just looks cleaner, cooler,” explained Maria as we perused bathroom and kitchen faucets by Kohler. Especially eye-catching is the latest line from Kohler, called Artifacts. Whimsical vintage designs are updated for the modern kitchen; faucets and showerheads come in a variety of colors and finishes, and have interesting features like Berrysoft™ spray–a gentle spray that protects delicate produce from bruising.
Turning a corner we were faced with row after row of cabinet handles and drawer pulls. Maria quickly picked out some of the more unique options on display, pointing out interesting features and materials.
“Look here—leather!” said Maria, indicating a beautiful leather-covered drawer pull and outlet faceplate, both offered in a variety of rich colors. “And over here behind the glass, these Swarovski crystal-encrusted handles—these are so intricate, highly ornate.” We saw handles, knobs, pulls, and hooks in every material, shade, and finish you could imagine; from traditional crystal knobs to contemporary enamel-and-metal designs.
“You could absolutely transform an entire room with just an update in hardware,” said Maria. “Whether you spent a little or a lot—and you could spend a lot, some of these options are very luxurious—new hardware can change a whole room.”
