Houston Flood Recovery: Things You Need to Know
May 18, 2016Wired: Making Your Kitchen Work for You
June 1, 2016Chartered in 1941, the Greater Houston Business Association works to develop a network of government, community, and public relationships, with the goal of enhancing the business climate for members while also providing quality, obtainable housing for the community. Cabinets & Designs President Maria Frank is an active member of GHBA, and a member of the Remodelers Council, a committee dedicated to the promotion of excellence and professionalism within the organization and public awareness of the Remodelers Council. The RMC achieves these goals through education, certification, and service to the membership, industry, and the community.
GHBA provides many wonderful volunteer and charitable giving opportunities throughout the year. Their events calendar features many GHBA-sponsored events that make a difference in Houston and the surrounding Gulf Coast region. In less than two weeks we’ll be heading to Galveston for the annual AIA Sandcastle Weekend, where the RMC team will compete against more than 60 other teams in front of over 20,000 spectators to benefit the ArCH Foundation. Other charitable GHBA events include:
- The Annual Charity Golf Tournament is held yearly in the spring; the April 2016 tournament included a silent auction and proceeds benefitted Home Aid Houston, a charity sponsored by the GHBA which identifies long-term, stable homeless care providers who need additional capacity and pairs them with GHBA builders, vendors, and suppliers who donate time, materials, and labor to help build transitional homeless shelters.
- The GHBA Adopt-a-Family Program is run in partnership with the Houston Housing Authority. Each year member companies “adopt” a family that has completed a Wish List; items are delivered to GHBA for a wrapping party, and gifts are delivered at a special ceremony in early December.
- The Bay Area Builders Association (BABA) is a division of GHBA which provides custom homes to wounded and disabled veterans, and the widows of the fallen. BABA was established in 2005 as a non-profit/non-partisan organization. Founder Dan Wallrath was recognized in November 2010 as one of the year’s top 10 CNN heroes.
