In keeping with our April theme of summer vacation, this week’s blog is a quick tour of some terrific summer activities for the kids. First we talked about using Pinterest for Kids to find fun summer projects, and then we talked about how to have family fun together in the kitchen [Ed. note: Insert link to April Week 2 blog; embed in copy.]. Today we have compiled a list of some of the best summer classes for kids that Houston has to offer. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean it’s time to stop learning!
Cooking Classes at Sur la Table
Did you know that Sur la Table conducts cooking classes for kids, in addition to adult classes? And, as their slogan promises, they “take care of everything, even the dishes!”
Check the schedule at Sur la Table at Town & Country Plaza for ideas. A few that jumped out at us:
Culinary Classes, Aisle Five!
Did you know that many of our local grocery stores conduct cooking classes as well? Not only that, but some stores now have entire sections of their websites dedicated to cool stuff for kids, parents, and families. Whole Foods Parents & Kids page is full of recipe ideas, nutrition information, and meal planning guides; Central Market is always updating their event and cooking class calendar with new and exciting options.
More Cooking Classes in Houston
Given the high profile of Houston’s food scene, it may come as no surprise that opportunities for kids to get started in the kitchen are growing in popularity. In schools, the Recipe for Success Foundation is teaching kids how to plant gardens, while they learn to cook from some of the city’s most famous chefs, while the urbanCHEF offers classes specially designed for kids 3-9—you can also schedule private lessons.
There is always something fun cooking in Houston! Check back next week, when we will move from the kitchen to the closet to share some of our favorite storage and organizing ideas.
