Does your kitchen need a makeover? Let the holidays be your guide! Take the opportunity over the next couple of months and pay attention to the things you want to change about your kitchen. As you prepare for, and cook your way through, the holiday season, make a list of things you would like to improve as you observe them. Your dream kitchen will practically build itself!
Are you having trouble squeezing that Thanksgiving turkey into the refrigerator again? Perhaps your pantry is a jumble of boxes and cans of all sizes, or your spice rack is simply in shambles. Nothing puts a finer point on the challenges of kitchen storage than getting ready to host holiday festivities. Pay attention to where you could use more room—under cabinets for pots and pans, a larger refrigerator/freezer—and add those to your wish list.
Pay attention to small spaces like drawers, too. Adding interior features (think lazy Susans and racks for pan lids) is a great way to increase organization and efficiency.
Old appliances will quickly reveal their shortcomings when you are cooking for a crowd! If the cook time on every dish is off, it may be time to replace the oven. If your foods aren’t keeping fresh in the refrigerator, or your freezer isn’t keeping foods frozen, an appliance replacement or two should definitely make the wish list!
Don’t forget the small appliances, too. Hauling out the old-fashioned coffee percolator might be a family tradition, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have a brand-new, built-in, top-of-the-line espresso maker.
If you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner, or any other holiday meal, you’ll be spending some time at the kitchen counter which means you’re going to be noticing every little scratch, nick, and dent. Chances are good that since your countertop was installed, the options have become wider, more beautiful, and certainly more scratch-and-dent-resistant. If “new countertop” makes your wish list, make a note to learn more about countertops and countertop materials.
Don’t forget to pay attention to other areas of the house during the holidays, such as bathrooms, dining rooms, and entertainment spaces. The holiday season gives us a chance to see how our homes could work more efficiently—use this to your advantage! And don’t forget to bring your wish list in to Cabinets & Designs—our team is ready to help you build the kitchen of your dreams!
