October 15, 2014Showroom Show & Tell: Wood-Mode Custom Cabinetry
October 29, 2014One of our favorite events all year is the annual GHBA Remodelers Council Garage Sale, which this year was held in September at NRG Center, during the Texas Home & Garden Show. The garage sale encompasses two full days of fun and exciting interaction with customers and colleagues, and provides our industry with a wonderful opportunity to raise money for those less fortunate in our community. Sale items come from GHBA members who donate the extra materials and merchandise from their showrooms and storerooms, which are then priced 50-75 percent off; homeowners shop the garage sale to enjoy deeply discounted prices, and to make their dollars go further by helping others. The Remodelers Council Garage Sale truly is a win-win for everyone involved. This year, proceeds from the sale totaled $15,000—a number that will help many in the coming year. For example, last year’s sale benefited Sonrise Shelter, and enough money was raised to install a new air conditioning system in the shelter as well as providing privacy walls for the shelter’s residents. The recipient of the 2014 Remodelers Council Garage Sale will be announced in Spring 2015.
Over the years, Cabinets & Designs President Maria Frank has seen all kinds of treasures pop up at the garage sale: high-end cabinetry, insulation, paint, hardware, and just about every other kind of building material you could imagine. The sale is a true labor of love; companies and individuals donate their time, materials, and even delivery services, while proceeds are used to fund all of the Council’s charitable efforts throughout the year. Items not sold are then donated to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, where they will be sold and the proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity. Other nonprofits the GHBA Remodelers Council has been able to assist over the years include SIRE Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Jacquelyn House, and the Sonrise Shelter, among many others. For Maria Frank and her husband Mike, the opportunity to work on the garage sale is a privilege, and one they look forward to each year.
When communities come together, they sky is the limit. Cabinets & Designs is proud to work with the Remodelers Council to help build a stronger Houston for everyone. We are already looking forward to next year’s garage sale, and in the meantime, we will keep you posted on the upcoming charitable events and opportunities GHBA provides throughout the year.
