When we are shopping for kitchenware and kitchen accessories, searching for the latest kitchen gadget is often one of our favorite places to start. Kitchen gadgets can solve all kinds of inconvenient problems for the home cook, and they can be fun to play with, too! We turned to some of our clients to find out what gadgets they find most useful in the kitchen.
Lisa S. cited her grapefruit slicer and her Henckels serrated knife as her two favorite kitchen gadgets. Grapefruit slicers make sectioning fruit a breeze, and they come in several styles. Some section the fruit after you slice them in half, while others are designed like spoon with a slicing blade that allows you to segment out individual sections one at a time. Henckels is one of the oldest and most trusted name in kitchen knives, made of high-quality stainless steel.
Elaine H. can’t live without her mixer in the kitchen. A countertop or stand mixer is a staple for the serious home cook, particularly the home pastry chef. While they are heavy and they can take up some counter space, they make life for the serious home cook/baker a breeze compared to their hand-mixer counterparts.
Janita L. really loves her blender over all other kitchen gadgets. The great thing about blenders is they are lightweight and easy to store, in addition to being useful in so many different ways. From fruit smoothies for breakfast, to a creamy tomato soup for dinner, to a hearty hummus for a healthy treat, a blender can help you transform everyday ingredients into something special in minutes, with a minimum of cleanup required.
Jann K. swears by her set of three Swissmar peelers from Williams-Sonoma, and says, “You can peel any fruit or vegetable no matter how thick the skin is.” This set of three peelers includes straight, serrated and julienne blades: the straight blade removes skin from root veggies and firm fruits, the serrated blade works great with delicate produce (tomato, kiwi, mango), while the julienne blade creates fine strips on veggies—like carrots—and even cheese.
Jane S. is devoted to her automatic wine bottle opener, citing “no more broken corks!” as the main benefit to this handy kitchen tool. These handy kitchen tools save more than just your corks—they are also great for anyone who struggles with traditional wine openers, making cork removal quick and easy.
