David Steffan, Sr., is the founder and president of Cabinets & Designs. Mr. Steffan sat down with his daughter, Maria, and asked him to reflect on the last forty years in the kitchen and bath industry. In this interview David Steffan—affectionately known as “Senior”—shares the story of how he got his start in the kitchen and bath industry, and how that led him to open Cabinets & Designs some forty years ago.

Cabinets & Designs is proud to announce that we are celebrating 40 years in the kitchen and bath industry this year! It’s hard to believe that forty years have gone by, and we are so grateful to our clients, new and old. Many of you have used us because your parents, or even your grandparents are our clients and that is something to be proud of—and believe us, we are. 

Buy American

We have noticed a trend among both our new clients, and our repeat customers: the desire to buy American. More than ever before our clients are coming in to start projects, and asking how they can invest in their homes while also investing in American-made products. These people know that when we buy products made in America we are supporting manufacturing, and manufacturing is the cornerstone of a solid economy. Part of being an educated consumer is knowing the impact of what we buy on our economy, from the local to the national level, and making informed decisions that benefit our lives, our home, and our country. 

Interview with Tom Steffan: South Texas Factory Rep For Wood-Mode & Brookhaven Cabinetry

Describe your background info and how you got into your current position?  I grew up in the kitchen business & went to work for my dad in 1975 (he was the Wood-Mode rep before me).  I was lucky to have my dad as my mentor since he was a pioneer in the sales & design of custom manufactured kitchens.  I started out servicing builder business and eventually got involved in the retail kitchen business before taking over the rep territory in 1992.

Multigenerational Concepts and Design

Here at Cabinets & Designs the concept of “multigenerational” is an important one. From a design standpoint we have talked about multigenerational and transgenerational design before; it’s sometimes referred to as universal design as well.

Halloween Memories

While driving by a pumpkin patch on the way to work, I started thinking about my favorite Halloween memories. Somehow, they all involved being gathered with my family in the kitchen. Whether carving pumpkins on the kitchen table with my dad or roasting the seeds with my mom, we were always in that heart of the home. So, when I arrived at Cabinets & Designs, I started asking my coworkers about their favorite halloween memories. Surprisingly, the answers were all similar: memories of early childhood halloweens, helping their parents prepare in the kitchen. So, to get you in the halloween spirit, we’re sharing some of our favorite memory making halloween tips and treats.
