Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year, full of delicious, comforting foods and time-honored traditions. Ho
One of the most special things about Thanksgiving—and about any holiday where we gather with friends and family—is participating in traditions, whether they are ceremonial, food-centered, or even a favorite game you play each year. We queried some of our clients to find out what they are most thankful for this year, and what some of their favorite traditions are that they share with their loved ones during the Thanksgiving holiday.
What is an interesting or unique family tradition that you and your family or friends share?
J.K.: When my dad was living, he and I would always go outside and rake leaves before sitting down to eat Thanksgiving dinner.
J.L.: (We share) life experience, stories about family, values and fun memories.
L.S.: Just prior to filling our plates, we stand in a circle (usually around the island where the food is placed, buffet style) holding hands and each person shares what they are thankful for. Some shared thoughts are funny and produce laughter, other comments are on the serious side; my mom began this tradition years ago.
J.S.: My kids insist I make my famous corn fritters!
Be Grateful, Give Thanks
It never hurts to take a few minutes and reflect on what we are grateful for; counting our blessings is a way to put negative things into perspective. Our clients listed family, friends, and faith among their top reasons to be grateful this year. J.S. is also thankful for her clients: “Most of my clients become friends!” J.K. is also thankful for her family’s good health, stating: “That old saying that money can’t buy your health is true.”
Thanksgiving Décor: Ideas and Inspiration
Do you decorate for Thanksgiving? We asked our clients where they like to shop for their fall and Thanksgiving decorations. Some said they don’t decorate for Thanksgiving as they would for other holidays, while others enjoyed some well-placed fall foliage decorations to enhance the Thanksgiving ambiance. Our client J.S. says of her Thanksgiving decorations: “No purchase necessary! Mother Nature provides as I go on walks.” We love the idea of using natural decorations like dried leaves and acorns to add seasonal flair. Favorite stores for holiday décor shopping include Pottery Barn, HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, and Steinmart. Client J.K. also loves a small store located in The Woodlands called October Gave a Party.
We wish all of our clients and friends a very happy Thanksgiving. We are so grateful for all of you, and wish you all the happiness in the world this holiday season!
