Gun Room

One of our most exciting projects recently has been the creation of a custom gun room for a client in Hockley, TX. New cabinet installations can help you repurpose any space in your home to make that space more useful and enjoyable for you and your family.

Identifying your goals is the first step in creating a customized space, and is especially important when you are changing the purpose of a room. After all, when you redesign your kitchen you want it to work and look better, but it is still going to function as a kitchen; when you are redesigning a room to make it useful for a new activity or hobby you must clarify your vision through identifying your needs.

When we started this gun room redesign the client’s vision was for a space where his guns could be showcased, but also where they could be appropriately stored under the right conditions. By breaking down his needs into specific areas, we were able to customize the room to maximize usability, as well as create an authentic design aesthetic.

The room needed to be able to store 50-60 rifles and 80-100 pistols. The guns needed to be measured, and custom drawers and cabinets created, to ensure a perfect fit; antique rifles are longer than modern rifle models. Custom-made angled drawers were also created for the pistols, to enhance them from a display and design standpoint. The client had the drawers lined in leather—in addition to being beautiful, the leather lining protects the guns and keeps them in good condition.

The gun room itself is a “hidden room,” meaning that it is separated by a wall of wood panels; one panel serves as the door, which pushes open into the gun room from the client’s office. The look is seamless, and does not detract from the décor of the client’s office. Another custom feature of the gun room is a built-in work bench, where the client can build his own ammunition. The work bench includes built-in storage for gun powder and casings.
