Effective tips for organizing a kitchen

  • The kitchen might just be among the most difficult spaces to organize, but it is certainly not unconquerable. In this article we will show you how the application of some simple strategies will transform even the most badly organized kitchens into the most well organized ones.

The most important principle that one should keep in mind while organizing any space is to discard stuff that is not required. A lot of us have the tendency of keeping items that we don't use and probably never will, so even if these things are in a working condition they are effectively useless and taking up unnecessary space. It's a lot better to donate such items to people who might use them.

After you have removed all the unnecessary items from your kitchen it's time to start organizing stuff. You will have a variety of shelves, cabinets and drawers where you can keep all your kitchen items. The easiest and most effective ways of organizing a kitchen is provided by the following principles –

    • The items you use regularly should be easily accessible
    • Items of a similar nature, or those used for similar purposes should be kept together
    • Seasonal items should be stored away

To elaborate upon the aforementioned principles – keep stuff of daily use at hand, you can keep them in the lower shelves so that they can be easily reached. Next, the items that are used together, like plates, bowls, mugs and glasses should be kept at the same place. You should also arrange food items in a similar fashion and make it point to label everything. Admittedly, the process will take some time but it will save a lot more time in future. Finally there are seasonal items like holiday plates and other serving pieces that are used after significant intervals of time. You can put them into the higher shelves and in case you don't have sufficient cabinet space just store them away somewhere else.

These are some basic strategies to ensure that you get your kitchen organized; you can add your own tips and make the whole process even more effective and easy. But once you've got your kitchen organized it's your responsibility to keep it that way.
