Houston & Hurricane Harvey: How You Can Help

In the wake of Harvey, the Cabinets & Designs staff is committed to helping Houston rebuild. Our thoughts and prayers are with those families affected by the storm, and we encourage everyone to chip in and do their part. Whether you’re looking to donate time, money, food, clothing, or household items, many organizations throughout Houston could use your help. Here are some of our favorite suggestions for how you can help Houston recover from Hurricane Harvey.

Donate to Houston Food Bank

Houston Food Bank

One of the premier food banks in the country, Houston Food Bank will not only help feed families displaced by the storm, but they will also help fill a critical need for children who rely on school breakfast and school lunch but cannot yet return to school. They are in search of donations and volunteers.

Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston

Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston administers Meals on Wheels and aniMeals on Wheels, as well as refugee services. IMGH is in search of volunteers as well as donations—visit their website and social media channels for up-to-date information on specific needs.

Greater Houston Builders Association

Our friends at GHBA have assembled their own set of disaster resources for homeowners in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. In addition, you can use the GHBA website to find a qualified professional you can trust to help you with home repair and renovation post-storm.

Houston Farms, Ranchers, and Farmers Markets

Houston and Houston-area farms and ranches were hard hit by Hurricane Harvey. Some local farms lost everything, and many will struggle to rebuild in the months to come. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Shop Houston-area farmers markets in the coming weeks and months;
  • Follow Edible Houston for information on post-Harvey fundraisers for farmers;
  • Connect with your favorite farmers markets on social media for more specific information on how you can help markets, farmers, ranchers, and vendors.
